Chicago (52,560 cases) and Cook County (38,351 cases) posted the highest numbers statewide. Chicago's death toll from the virus stands at 2,611, while Cook County recorded 1,970 deaths, according to the IDPH.
Illinois residents who have been tested for COVID-19 now number 1,636,055, the department reported. And the age group with the most confirmed cases was 40 to 49, with 25,249 people in the age group testing positive for the virus.
Among all those testing positive in Illinois, 67,995 were male and 73,362 were female, the IDPH said. Male deaths linked to coronavirus numbered 3,777, while female deaths stood at 3,169.
Broken down according to race, the fatalities consisted of 3,090 Asians, 3,090 whites, 1,934 African-Americans, 1,435 Hispanics, and 165 belonging to other races or who did not provide their ethnicity before they died.
