Arthur Community Unit School District 305 Board met Dec. 18.

Here is the minutes provided by the Board:

The regular meeting of the Arthur Board of Education was called to order by President Beth Wiley at 6:00 pm on December 18, 2019 in the Arthur Lovington Alwood Hammond High School Cafeteria with the following members present: Suzi Berkich, Brock Casteel, Monica Green, Kristie Mechling, Ryan Nettles, Justin Wierman, and Beth Wiley. Mr. Shannon Cheek and visitors were also present.

The Pledge of Allegiance was recited.

Mr. Cheek read a "Thank You" card from Dana Tinkle and Spencer Kirby for allowing them to attend the annual IAHPERD State Convention.

A Public Hearing was held on the 2019 Tax Levy.

A motion was made by Kristie Mechling, seconded by Suzi Berkich to approve the consent agenda as presented which included: the Minutes of the November 20, 2019 meeting, bills of $331,389.35, Treasurer's Report, an anonymous donation received for $2,000.00 for 5 teachers, the first reading of Press Policy 102, and the Principal Reports. Upon roll, all members present voted yea. Motion carried.

A motion was made by Ryan Nettles, seconded by Justin Wierman to approve the 2019 Tax Levy. Upon roll, all members present voted yea. Motion carried.

A motion was made by Ryan Nettles, seconded by Monica Green to adopt the resolution abating the tax heretofore levied for the year 2019 to pay debt service on General Obligation School Bonds (Alternative Revenue Source), Series 2014, of Arthur Community Unit School District #305, Douglas, Moultrie, and Coles Counties, Illinois. Upon roll, all members voted yea. Motion carried.

Superintendent's Report was presented. See attached.

During Board Comment, Kristie Mechling offered her thanks for continuing communications from the district and the schools. Monica Green mentioned that she received many compliments about Mr. Cheek while attending the school board convention. Ryan Nettles commented that he knows the school board convention is an expense to the district but serves as a good learning opportunity. He appreciated the experience of attending the convention. Beth Wiley suggested that board members come prepared to share their experiences from the convention at the January meeting, Beth Wiley also thanked the schools for making the holidays fun for the kids with all the art work and decorations in the schools.

A motion was made by Suzi Berkich, seconded by Kristie Mechling to enter executive session at 6:36 pm under the Open Meetings Act for the appointment, employment, compensation, discipline, performance, or dismissal of specific employees of the District or legal counsel for the District, including hearing testimony on a complaint lodged against an employee or against legal counsel for the District to determine its validity. 5 ILCS 120/2 (c)(1) and for collective bargaining matters between the District and its employees (5 ILCS 120/2(CX2)]. All members present voted yea. Motion carried.

A motion was made by Suzi Berkich, seconded by Ryan Nettles to leave executive session at 8:21 pm. All present voted yea. Motion carried.

A motion was made by Monica Green, seconded by Suzi Berkich to accept executive session minutes as read in executive session. Upon roll, all members present voted yea. Motion carried.

A motion was made by Suzi Berkich, seconded by Justin Wierman to approve the personnel report as presented which includes: accept resignation from Zachary Senger as JH Social Studies teacher at AGS and JH Scholastic Bowl Coach at AGS both effective December 20, 2019, approve Kassandra Wilson as Administrative Assistant at ALAH HS, approve Ryan Jefferson as Junior High Girls Track Coach, approve Melissa Hopkins as Assistant Junior High Track Coach. Upon roll, all members present voted yea. Motion carried.

A motion was made by Kristie Mechling, seconded by Suzi Berkich to adjourn at 8:22 pm. All members present voted yea. Motion carried.
