Illinois state Rep. Chris Miller (R-Oakland) is standing behind his No vote on legislation that caps insurance copays on drugs such as insulin.
Senate Bill 667 easily passed the House by a 100-13 vote, but Miller remains unconvinced it will solve anything in the long term.
“Illinoisans have rightful concerns about the ever-increasing costs of prescription medicines, such as insulin,” Miller said in a press release. “I care deeply for these concerns, which is why I voted No. This bill will do nothing to address the root problem of these increasing prices.”
Miller adds that he fears the new law might open the floodgates in terms of the government placing price caps on medicines across the board.
“I do not see where it may stop,” he said. “The General Assembly should not be in the business of making important decisions for businesses large or small. I could not support legislation which will do nothing to truly address the problem of prescription drug costs while giving way to the unrestrained growth of our state government.”
