MIDDLE SCHOOL

PD Opportunities:

Several of the Middle School teachers attended a workshop on Friday, June 8th to work with Megan Gunter, Tennessee Teacher of the Year Nominee. They worked on hands on activities to incorporate into their classrooms and lesson planning.

End of the Year Activities:

The talent show, city clean up, and school cookout! Thanks to Mr. Garner, Mr. Cook, and Mr. Marcure for their grilling skills. Thank you to all of the kids for happily giving back to our community! Teachers, thank you for organizing, supervising, and participating! We had so many great acts; the kids were brave and confident! The audience was supportive and kind!

Awards Day Ceremony:

Yesterday was our annual Awards Ceremony at CAMMS. We had the privilege to honor a great number of our students with honor roll awards, perfect attendance, citizenship, and grade level awards, as well as recognize those who have participated in all of the extracurricular activities we offer. We are very proud of the excellent students we teach every day. The annual Citizenship Award was presented to 8th graders, Morgan Malone and Gabe McElroy. Delaney Nation was recognized for perfect attendance for all 3 years at CAMMS.

Vocational Exploration:

Craig & Ashley Corzine, sponsored by Shell Rotella & Sam’s Club and pulling on the National Circuit, shared their passion of pulling with our middle school students. This was a fantastic end to our Flex Enrichment time as everything Craig & Ashley talked about from the engine, to the mechanics, to the development and creation of the truck, to the logistics, to marketing and advertising went hand in hand with all of our previous Flex sessions. Thank you guys so much for taking time to come in and share with our Raiders.

Craig Uphoff joined us at the middle school to talk about his career in structural engineering with Cat. He also talked about all the other different types of engineering jobs available as well. It was interesting hearing about the structure in Dubai that he was involved in & how he and other engineers had to solve problems in building because of the weather & heat. Craig did an awesome job letting students know that engineering is all around them & how it relates to their everyday lives. Thank you so much for sharing with our students.

On Monday, May 14th, Sarah Minott visited the Middle School to discuss her experience with H&M Farms, our local pumpkin and Christmas Tree Farm. She shared about the growing process, the business side of farming, and her family's story. The kids had a lot of interesting questions. Thank you,Sarah!

HIGH SCHOOL

The 26th graduating class of Central A&M High School received their diplomas on Saturday, May 19. By Friday, May 25, the freshmen through juniors finished up their finals exams and put a close on the 2017-2018 school year. Teachers have now closed up their classrooms, and the construction/abatement/remodeling has started. Raider Nation is already preparing for 2018-2019!

Here are a few other notes from the High School:

We have 13 students in Summer Driver Education and 5 students in Summer School at the High School.

Our FFA chapter has been busy the last couple of days at the FFA State Convention in Springfield. Here are reports from sponsor Betsy Burgener:

We have had a fantastic couple of days at our 2018 State FFA Convention in Springfield! We have heard some great retiring addresses, witnessed many FFA members’ hard work pay off as they earn awards, including our very own Erin Forlines who competed in the State Job Interview LDE on Tuesday, and our six State FFA Degree Recipients - Alaina Burgener, Mallory Burgener, Tyler Horton, Colton Hubner, Brady Sloan, and Brett Zindel, and Mallory Burgener and Maygan Durbin had the chance to present our chapter scrapbooks, made by Mallory, to a group of judges! Tomorrow will kick off bright and early with the election of the 2018-2019 State FFA Officer team!

We were so very blessed today to be able to be named the top chapter in the state for the 2017 FFA Foundation Collection Drive because of all of YOU! We have been striving for this for a while now and we were finally able to achieve it this year! THANK YOU to all of you who donated and who support our chapter!

Proud of Raider Nation’s representation at the Moweaqua PowWow. Erin Forlines, a senior, was named Queen. Several members of the Band and Chorus performed in the parade and at the festival. FFA pitched in, and a few Raiders were manning booths and helping with events.

Athletes are busy preparing for the 2018-2019 sports seasons:

•Volleyball camp took the gym the final week in May, with several young Raiders comprising the three sessions. The High School team has been playing in summer events as well.

•Boys’ Basketball camp was the first week of June, again with three sessions. The Raiders are also preparing with summer events.

•Girls’ Basketball camp was held this past week, with two sessions of youngsters as well. The Lady Raiders are also involved in summer basketball events.

•Footballl camp was also held this past week. Several Raiders have been at the sessions.

•The best part: we have had several athletes in the weight room adding to strength and conditioning.

Spring Sports wrapped up. The softball team won the Regional and was ousted in the IHSA Sectional by eventual state champion Windsor-Stew-Stras. Allie Dunn and Brooke Friesner were All-Central Illinois Conference First Team, Mikayla Denton was 2nd Team, and Channing Reed was honorable mention. Dunn was 2nd Team and Friesner 3rd Team All-State.

Brycen Burgener was named Honorable Mention for All-Central Illinois Conference baseball.

Logan Farris finished 11th in the triple jump, while Riley Black, Taryn Sams and Cord Fenton participated in the State Track Meet.

KEMMERER VILLAGE SCHOOL

DCFS: 12School: 14

Summer school is under way and seems to be going well. Summer school will end June 29th.

I expect a large turn over of residents during the summer months. At least nine of the kids have discharge plans during July and August to either return home, go to foster care, transitional living programs or step down to moderate residential programming.

On June 7, 2018, the Therapeutic Recreation Department took 12 students to a St. Louis Cardinal Game. All of them had a good time.

Students are in the middle of their softball season.

I am currently working on plans for next school year.
