City of Mason City Council met March 11.

Council Members Present Were Aldermen Francis, Mason, Mahin, Dodson And Miller. Treasurer Mike Griffin, Clerk Michele Whitehead, Superintendent Dixon And Chief Anderson Attended The Meeting. Guests Present Were Jennifer Durbin, Bailie Krause, Sophia Schneider, Caroline Dennison, June Mahan, Julie Mize, Hailie Folkes, Tony Armour, Troy Mcclure, Wendy Martin, Jeff Oney And 2 Others. Alderman Kirby Had To Excuse Himself For Another Meeting At 7:02.
Mayor Lowe Declared A Quorum Present.
Sophia Schneider, Bailie Krause And Caroline Dennison From The Illini Central Middle School Student Council Addressed The Council Regarding A 5k Run/Walk They Are Sponsoring To Support Research For Pws And To Assist A Local Family Dealing With Pws On Sunday, May 5th, Beginning At The Ichs Parking Lot And Down Roosevelt. The Students Are Asking For Help With Possible Road Closure And Street Monitoring. The Council Approved The Closures And Monitoring.
Hailey Folkes Addressed The Council On Behalf Of The Pto Regarding A Trick Or Trunk At Halloween. She Explained That It Would Consist Of Cars Being Decorated For The Season And Parked In One Specified Location Where The Kids Could Go Trick Or Treating From Car Trunks. The Council Had No Problems With The Idea. The Pto Will Continue With Their Ideas For The Trick Or Trunk And Get Back With The Council At A Later Date If Anything Is Needed.
Jeff Oney Of The Mason City Iga Addressed The Council Regarding Obtaining A Class A Liquor License And Gaming License. The Iga Would Like To Put In Gaming Machines. The Machines Would Be In A Separate Area Of The Store, Not Within Public Viewing. Alderman Mahin Voiced Concern Regarding Issuing Another Liquor And Gaming License. Alderman Francis Voiced That He Understood Alderman Mahin’s Concerns But He Feels That The Iga Is Important To This Town And We Need To Support It And Help Them Grow If At All Possible. The Motion To Grant The Licenses Passed.
Julie Mize Asked A Few Questions Regaringthe Ordinance Violation List She Had And Some Properties In Town. She Also Asked About The Gaming License, Asking If Gaming Generates Money For The Municipality. The Council Explained That It Does Generate Extra Money For The Municipality.
June Mahin Spoke To The Council About The Storm Drainage Problem At The Dollar General Store, It Doesn’t Drain Properly And Floods Her Alley. Superintendent Dixon Will Take A Look At It. She Then Went On To Speak At Length About Past Issues With The Police Department. As Chief Anderson Explained To Her, He Can’t Speak Of What Used To Be Procedure He Can Only Speak About Current Procedures And How Calls Are Now Handled.
Troy Mcclure Spoke To The Council That He Felt That Gaming Did Not Need To Be At The Iga.
Alderman Kirby Returned To The Meeting At 7:20 P.M.
The Minutes Of The February 27, 2019 Meeting Were Approved.
The Treasurer’s Report Was Approved.
The Bill Following Bills Were Approved: (To Be Inserted In Minutes Book)
The Pollution Prevention Plan Was Approved.

Alderman Miller Informed The Council That Spring Clean-Up In 2018 Cost Approximately $6686.00. Superintendent Dixon Will Get Dates Set Up For The 2019 Spring Clean Up Weekends.
Alderman Francis Informed The Council That At The Police Committee Meeting Held March 4th, 2019 They Discussed Hiring Of A 5th Full-Time Officer. Chief Anderson Expressed Concern That The Officers Are Working To Many Hours And A 5th Officer Would Help To Aleviate The Over-Time.
Alderman Francis Moved And Seconded By Alderman Miller To Adjourn Into Executive Session At 7:50 P.M. To Discuss 5ilcs (C)(1)(6) Personnel, Property.
