City of Mason City Council met April 22.

Call to order by Mayor Pro-Tem Scott Francis
Council members physically present were Aldermen Gerald Mahin, Dan Mason, Mike Kirby, John Dodson, Jim Miller, Alderman Francis was acting Mayor Pro-Tem. Also present were Treasurer Michael R. Griffin, City Clerk Michele Whitehead, Superintendent Wayne Dixon, and Chief Adam Anderson. Julie Mize, Andrea Seward, Dawn Wood, Sue Klassen, Wendy Martin, and Todd Simpson also attended the meeting.
Mayor Lowe was absent.
The Chairman declared quorum present.
Julie Mize spoke to the Council regarding ordinance violation’s, she would like another updated list. She also inquired as to how the Chief attending a Supervisory training was beneficial to the City. The Council explained that it would help the Chief to develop skills to better supervise over the Police force.
Andrea Seward addressed the Council with questions regarding the arrests for the year, patrol patterns, the K-9 program, the supervisory training. The Council again responded that the Supervisory training will assist the chief in learning new skills to run a good department. The Chief addressed the questions regarding the K-9 program, such as the fundraising his department his doing to cover cost of the K-9 program.
Sue Klassen asked about an unlicensed vehicle in her neighbor’s driveway, Chief Anderson and Officer Simpson responded that they would look into the matter.
There was some discussion about possibly forming a grant committee to assist the City in researching and applying for grants. Julie Mize expressed interest in forming a committee once she is sworn in as a member of the Council.
The Minutes of the April 8th, 2019 Council meeting were approved.
