Former state school employee Mosbarger paid in $16K to teachers' pension fund, could collect $519K in retirement

Former state school employee Carol Mosbarger, who retired in January 2016, saved $16,369 toward a pension over 11 years working for public schools, Teachers' Retirement System of the State of Illinois records show.

Over 30 years of retirement, Mosbarger would collect as much as $518,632, according to a projection by Local Government Information Services (LGIS), which publishes East Central Reporter.

The projection assumes Mosbarger received $10,901 in the first year of retirement, then 3 percent annual increases thereafter, compounded.

After 2 years of retirement, Mosbarger will have already received $22,129 in retirement benefits, or more than the sum total of the retiree's contributions to the teachers' pension fund.
