Former state school employee Horsley paid in $37K to teachers' pension fund, could collect $907K in retirement

Former state school employee Kathleen Horsley, who retired in February 2018, saved $37,087 toward a pension over 24 years working for public schools, Teachers' Retirement System of the State of Illinois records show.

Over 30 years of retirement, Horsley would collect as much as $907,093, according to a projection by Local Government Information Services (LGIS), which publishes East Central Reporter.

The projection assumes Horsley received $19,066 in the first year of retirement, then 3 percent annual increases thereafter, compounded.

After 2 years of retirement, Horsley will have already received $38,704 in retirement benefits, or more than the sum total of the retiree's contributions to the teachers' pension fund.
