Former state university employee Philpot paid in $16K to pension fund, could collect $677K in retirement

Former state university employee Deborah Philpot, who retired in July 2017, saved $16,144 toward a pension over 4 years working for state universities, State Universities Retirement System of Illinois records show.

Over 30 years of retirement, Philpot would collect as much as $676,585, according to a projection by Local Government Information Services (LGIS), which publishes East Central Reporter.

The projection assumes Philpot received $14,221 in the first year of retirement, then 3 percent annual increases thereafter, compounded.

After 2 years of retirement, Philpot will have already received $28,869 in retirement benefits, or more than the sum total of the retiree's contributions to the state pension fund.
