City of Arcola issued the following announcement on April 12.
City crews will be flushing water mains in town April 23-25. Crews will begin on the west side and work east through town.
Hydrant flushing is one form of preventative maintenance the City uses to provide residents with the highest quality water possible. Hydrant valves are opened and closed to control the flow of water and flush the system lines of sediment.
As a result of this process, water to area homes may be temporarily discolored. The discoloration is due to silt and air in the lines and does not affect the safety of the water. However, we recommend residents avoid doing laundry when hydrants are being flushed nearby.
If you experience discolored water, allow faucets to run for a few minutes to flush the lines in your home. It is a good idea to also do this if you’ve been out of the house for a week or more to remove any stagnant water.
Hydrants will be flushed 7 a.m. to 4 p.m. throughout the week.
