The price of local government in 2016: Douglas County

The Douglas County budget was $10.89 million for its 2016 fiscal year.

That's an increase of 6.3 percent from 2015, when the county spent $10.24 million.

Douglas County has a population of 19,980.

Since 2001, the Douglas County budget has grown by 30.7 percent, from $8.33 million. The county population has grown 2.7 percent over the same period, from 19,464.

Salaries accounted for 39.7 percent of county spending in 2016. Douglas County property taxpayers paid $4.32 million for 90 full-time employees and 55 part-time employees.

In 2001, the county had 68 full-time employees and 57 part-time employees, and spent $3.03 million.
