The price of local government in 2017: City of Effingham

The City of Effingham budget was $78.18 million for its 2017 fiscal year, or $14,405 per household.

That's a decrease of 10 percent from 2016, when the city spent $86.91 million, or $16,014 per household.

Effingham has 5,427 households and a population of 12,328.

Since 2001, the City of Effingham budget has grown by 11.5 percent, from $70.13 million. The city population has grown 2.5 percent over the same period, from 12,022.

Salaries accounted for 9.5 percent of city spending in 2017. Effingham property taxpayers paid $7.40 million for 115 full-time employees and 72 part-time employees.
