Kansas Community Unit School District 3 students suspended 52 times in a single school year

Kansas Community Unit School District 3 reported 52 suspensions for 2016-17, according to the latest student discipline report by the Illinois State Board of Education.

According to the report, the district expelled or suspended 52 students during the year. That equates to 24.6 percent of the 211 students enrolled.

Of the 52 out-of-school suspensions, including 32 elementary or middle schoolers and 20 high schoolers.

The district reported that most out-of-school suspensions were given for unspecified reasons. The category includes 27 incidents. There were 20 incidents of violence without physical injury. For 32 incidents, students were suspended for a day or less.
