Flora Community Unit School District 35 students suspended, expelled 206 times in a single school year

Flora Community Unit School District 35 reported four expulsions and 202 suspensions for 2016-17, according to the latest student discipline report by the Illinois State Board of Education.

According to the report, the district expelled or suspended 206 students during the year. That equates to 14.8 percent of the 1,394 students enrolled.

Students were expelled for three incidents with unspecified reasons and one incident with drugs.

Of the 93 in-school suspensions, 68 were given to boys and 25 were given to girls, including 14 elementary or middle schoolers and 79 high schoolers.

The district reported that most in-school suspensions were given for unspecified reasons. The category includes 85 incidents. There were six incidents of violence that caused physical injury. For 88 incidents, students were suspended for a day or less.

Of the 109 out-of-school suspensions, 90 were given to boys and 19 were given to girls, including 59 elementary or middle schoolers and 50 high schoolers.

The district reported that most out-of-school suspensions were given for unspecified reasons. The category includes 47 incidents. There were 38 incidents of violence that caused physical injury. For 55 incidents, students were suspended for a day or less.
