HSHS Good Shepherd Hospital issued the following announcement on Aug. 17.
HSHS Good Shepherd Hospital needs your help to make the 2018 Scarecrow Daze Parade a huge success! Entries are free. This year’s theme is “Happy 200th Birthday Illinois.”
The parade starts off the Scarecrow Daze Festival on Saturday, Oct. 6. Staging for the parade will take place at Forest Park in Shelbyville at 10 a.m. The parade route will follow the same route as used in the past several years. It will begin in the park, turn right on 9th Street, left on Morgan and right on 1st Street where the parade will disperse.
Candy and other items are allowed to be tossed as long as they are thrown safely toward the ground.
Businesses, organizations, political parties and individuals are encouraged to enter. Entries are due by Friday, Sept. 21. For more information or to register, please call HSHS Good Shepherd Hospital at 217-774-3961 ext. 2690 or email glenda.plunkett@hshs.org.
HSHS Good Shepherd Hospital will also collect canned food items and pet food along the parade route. The hospital plans to donate the items to the First United Methodist Food Pantry and to the local animal shelter.
“Last month, we helped 208 families which fed 689 mouths, 251 of which were children,” First United Methodist Church food pantry organizer, Nancy Mills said. “Year to date, we have assisted 1,042 households and the need grows each year we do this.”
