Village of Oblong Board of Trustees met June 6.

Here is the minutes provided by the Board:

Members Present: Mayor Teresa Fielder, Clerk Ladora Boyd, Trustee Debi Wilson, Trustee Angie Fear, Trustee Jay Haines, Trustee Dave Hasty, Trustee Bill Burke, Trustee Jeron Harris and Treasurer/Deputy Clerk Jan Miller.

Others Present: Police Chief Chad Pusey, Public Works Superintendent Gary Lanter, Chris DeWitt (WTAY/WTYE) and Tom Compton (Daily News).

The meeting was called to order at 7 pm by Mayor Fielder with everyone standing and saying the Pledge of Allegiance.

The Regular Board Meeting Minutes of May 2nd, 2018, were approved with a motion by Jeron, and a second by Angie. All ayes, motion carried.

There were no additions or deletions to the agenda this month.

There were no Delinquent Water Bill customers at the meeting this month.

Motion by Bill, with a second by Jay, to adopt Ordinance #2018-O-592 “Prevailing Wage Ordinance”. All ayes, motion carried.

Mayor’s Comments:

Teresa reappointed Jan Miller as Village Treasurer and Ladora Boyd as Village Clerk for one year.

Teresa stated that the Village had received a letter from Oblong Township for the job that Paula and the Public Works guys did on the Park Entrance for Memorial Day.

Teresa stated that Republic will start in July picking up trash for Oblong Water Customers that live outside the Village limits. Those customers will need to contact Republic starting in July. The price will be the same as customer that live inside the Village limits.

Teresa appointed Jeron Harris (Finance Committee Chairperson) to look over the Village’s Revolving Loan Applications first to make sure all information is there before having the rest of the Finance Committee members look at the applications.

Teresa stated that the Village had received a Letter from Ameren Illinois stating that Cochran Excavating Inc. will be applying herbicide treatment on right-of-ways for control of vegetation growth. She said for additional information the public can go to MySafeTrees.com.

Reports of Committees:

Police: Jay stated that he had nothing to report this month.

Building and Park: Debi stated that she had nothing to report this month.

Sidewalks and Lights: Bill stated that he had nothing to report this month.

Street and Alley: Angie stated that she had nothing to report this month

Water and Sewer: Dave stated that he had nothing to report this month.

Finance: Jeron stated that the raises, that the employees received, needed to be put in the minutes. Motion by Jeron, with a second by Dave, to accept the raises as printed for fiscal year 2019. All ayes, motions carried. (See attachment).

Development: Bill stated that he had nothing new to report this month.

Ad Hoc (Dilapidated/Unsafe Buildings): Teresa stated that the committee is following up on a few properties that are in need of repair or demolition. She also mentioned that Brigitte Brown was awarded the Hometown Pride Award in May. This month Jerry & Tamara Kidwell and Jean & Darla German were awarded the Hometown Pride Award. Teresa stated that Gary had two new street lights placed in Park Meadows Subdivision.

Motion by Jeron, with a second by Bill, to pay the bills that were on the warranty list and any utility bills, bills that will incur a late charge or reimbursements to employees. All ayes, motion carried.

There were a couple of other items of business this month. Teresa mentioned that the Oblong Chamber of Commerce 2nd Annual Hootenanny will be July 7th. There will be a magician, inflatables, food, vendors, concert that evening and a chicken dinner. Teresa stated that she had spoken with one of the Dog Park Committee member and that they have already stated receiving donation on their GoFundMe account. She mentioned that they do have a Facebook page that tells how to make donations for the Dog Park

Motion by Jeron, with a second by Bill, to adjourn the meeting at 7:15 pm. All ayes, motion carried.
