Carle Richland Memorial Hospital issued the following announcement on July 10.
“I just can’t say enough good things about Dr. Anand,” and “I highly recommend Dr. Anand.”
This is what Louisville, IL resident, Marjorie Hinkle, couldn’t stop saying in response to the care that she received from Carle Richland Memorial Hospital Orthopedic Surgeon, Dr. Prashanth Anand.
Hinkle was experiencing acute arthritic pain in her right knee. She knew that the discomfort she was experiencing was abnormal, but she decided she would try to live with the pain for a while. Eventually, Hinkle decided to seek medical attention.
After seeking advice from her primary care physician, Hinkle was referred to the office of Dr. Prashanth Anand where she learned that her condition was more serious than most.
“It was bad in her case,” said Anand. “We see a lot of arthritis, but hers was among one of the most severe cases.”
According to x-rays, Hinkle was suffering from what is known as bone-on-bone arthritis of the knee: the deterioration of cartilage between the ends of two bones in a joint, causing the bones to rub against each other.
Because she was an arthritis patient, Dr. Anand wanted to try another form of treatment before resorting to surgery.
“For arthritis, the first [options] we’ve got to try are non-operative,” Anand said. “Among non-operative options, you can try anti-inflammatories, give them shots, send them to physical therapy, knee braces, (etc.). IF they don’t respond, then comes the surgical [options].”
Between those options, Hinkle received a series of corticosteroid injections to see what would result from them. After time had passed with no results, Dr. Anand eventually decided to proceed with surgery.
On May 7th, 2018, Hinkle underwent surgery to replace her right knee.
Hinkle is now doing much better and, in part with physical therapy, says she sees nothing but improvements every day and holds nothing but praise towards Dr. Anand and his character as a doctor.
“He makes you feel comfortable,” said Hinkle. “You feel like if you got any questions you can ask him, and I like that.”
“If I had another leg I’d sure come to him.”
Hinkle not only has strong admirations towards Dr. Anand, but towards Carle Richland Memorial Hospital as well.
“I feel very comfortable coming here and I would recommend the hospital, [as well as] Dr. Anand, for the service that I received,” said Hinkle. “I realize that sometimes things don’t go like you expect, but I really am beyond my expectations here.”
Hinkle is currently attending physical therapy twice a week doing exercises which she says everyone should be doing post-operation because, “That’s going to make a difference in your recovery.”
“Knee replacement is considered one of the most rewarding surgeries,” said Dr. Anand. “Both to the doctor and the patient. It’s immediate. It’s a dramatic change in their lifestyle.”
