Shelbyville FPD responds to 38 fires in 2017

Shelbyville Fire Protection District responded to 52 calls in 2017 - 26.8 percent more than the previous year, according to data from the National Fire Incident Reporting System.

The calls in Shelbyville included 38 fires - 13 structure fires, seven vehicle fires and 18 other fires.

In all, the department saw $81,250 in fire loss - or about $2,138 per fire.

The department also received 14 false calls.

The Shelbyville Fire Protection District had an annual budget of $549,451 in 2016.

The Shelbyville FPD Firefighters Pension Fund, which has four active employees and five retired or inactive employees, was $76,452 in debt as of June 2016, according to the fund's mandated filings with the Illinois Department of Insurance. That amounts to $2,832 for every fire in 2016.
