HSHS ST. ANTHONY'S MEMORIAL HOSPITAL: HSHS St. Anthony’s Memorial Hospital names 2018 I Promise award winners

HSHS St. Anthony's Memorial Hospital issued the following announcement on June 18.

Each year, HSHS St. Anthony’s Memorial Hospital presents an “I Promise Award” to the four people who are most representative of the hospital’s four Core Values of Respect, Care, Competence and Joy. The four annual I Promise award winners are selected from 16 I Promise award quarterly winners selected throughout the year, all of which are nominated for the award by St. Anthony’s colleagues.

The 2018 I Promise award winners were named during a presentation at celebration prayer service and ceremony held in early May during “I Promise Week” (a special St. Anthony’s theme for National Hospital Week). The 2018 I Promise award winners were:

Martha Hoene, Same Day Surgery: Hoene was nominated for the care she provides, as evidence by a thank you from a colleague whose son had surgery and was cared for by Hoene in recovery. This colleague shared, “In recovery, my son’s nurse named Martha was phenomenal....she went above and beyond in everything she did. Its nurses like her that make a difference in patient care.”
Thomas Moll, Case Management: Moll was nominated for the award during his previous position as a social worker for HSHS Home Care and Hospice Southern Illinois. His nomination read, “Every day, Tom comes in with a smile and uplifted spirit, which is contagious to be around. I know that he has shared his expertise and compassion with colleagues, including building a communication bridge between the hospital and home care services. When I make follow-up condolence calls, I often hear families recount the genuine kindness they found with Tom. Tom serves as an example of the embodiment of the ‘I Promise’ we strive to reflect in our community.”
Jeremiah Roberts, Wound Healing Center: Roberts was nominated for the I Promise award by a colleague for going above and beyond. His nomination read, “Jeremiah is compassionate and has a wonderful way of making a stressful situation calming. He is witty but works with professionalism and has excellent clinical and communication skills. It is important to treat not only the wound but also treat the person and Jeremiah does this in a gentle, supportive manner. With his role as a Hyperbaric Oxygen (HBO) Technician, Jeremiah works diligently with insurance companies and navigates patients through an ever-changing and complex system to ensure treatments will be covered and not a financial burden. He also works with public transportation to help patients make their appointments when scheduled.” The nominator also shared a story where Roberts took personal time on a weekend to help a patient by mowing her lawn for her, as her disability prevented her from doing it herself.
Charles Veatch, Plant Services: Veatch was nominated for the award by a colleague for going above and beyond, with the assistance of his Maintenance department colleagues, to help a patient who needed their wheelchair repaired. The nomination told the story of an outpatient who came in daily for treatments, whose wheelchair was in desperate need of new wheels, which the Maintenance department repeatedly attempted to fix. Veatch found an old wheelchair that was in bad shape but had good wheels. While the patient was at the hospital for treatment, he took the chair down and with the assistance of Maintenance colleagues, they replaced all four wheels. The patient was so appreciative.”

HSHS St. Anthony's Memorial Hospital congratulates these colleagues and thanks them for demonstrating St. Anthony’s Core Values in their work, and living out their “I Promise.”
