HSHS GOOD SHEPHERD HOSPITAL: Gains ACR Mammography Accreditation

Healthevent

HSHS Good Shepherd Hospital issued the following announcement on June 14.

As part of qualifying as a certified mammography facility by the American College of Radiology (ACR), HSHS Good Shepherd’s radiology department must renew its accreditation every three years.

Accreditation by the ACR involves a review of the hospital’s equipment, a check of the radiation levels and the image quality.

It reviews the mammographers qualifications, competence, continuing education, experience positioning of patients. A panel of radiologists from the ACR also review mammogram films and the hospital’s findings for accuracy on those mammogram screenings.

“This process is lengthy and detailed,” mammographer Timmerle Scholes said. “There is a great deal of material that has to be submitted for this accreditation process, and then the wait may be as long as three months before the accreditation is validated. We strive to uphold the high-quality standards set by ACR.”
