The regular meeting of the Board of Education of Community Unit School District No. 4, Edgar County, was held on April 11, 2018 at 6:30 p.m. in the workroom of Crestwood School, Paris, Illinois. Those present were Jim Blue, Mary Liz Wright, Mike Reed, Kit Kirby, Keith Trogdon, Paul Porter, Superintendent Danette Young, and Principal Dan Lynch. Guests were Nancy Zeman from the Prairie Press, Josh McCarty, Sarah Mitchell, and Shawna Heath.
Motion by Porter, seconded by Trogdon to approve minutes of the March 14, 2018 regular board meeting. Trogdon, aye; Wright, aye; Kirby, aye; Blue, aye; Reed, aye; Porter, aye. 6 ayes. No nays. Motion carried

Motion by Trogdon, seconded by Reed to approve participation in IESA for the 2018-2019 school year. Porter, aye; Blue, aye; Reed, aye; Wright, aye; Kirby, aye; Trogdon, aye. 6 ayes. No nays. Motion carried.
Motion by Porter, seconded by Wright to approve voluntary student accident insurance with Zevitz-Student Accident Insurance Service Inc. for the 2018-2019 school year. Porter, aye; Blue, aye; Trogdon, aye; Reed, aye; Wright, aye; Kirby, aye. 6 ayes. No nays. Motion carried.
Motion by Reed, seconded by Porter to adopt the following policies per attached document: 2.260- Uniform Grievance Procedures; 4:40- Incurring Debt; 5:20- Workplace Harassment Prohibited; 5:170- Copyright. Motion by Porter seconded by Trogdon to appoint Mary Liz Wright to a two year term on the Paris High School Cooperative Board. Blue, aye; Trogdon, aye; Wright, aye; Reed, aye; Kirby, aye; Porter, aye. 6 ayes. No nays. Motion carried.
Motion by Wright, seconded by Kirby to appoint Mike Reed as the Unit 4 delegate on the EIASE Governing Board for the 2018-2019 school year and Jarrod Dyer as an alternate. Blue, aye; Wright, aye; Trogdon, aye; Porter, aye; Kirby, aye; Reed, aye. 6 ayes. No nays. Motion carried.
A FOIA request was received from Michelle Mbekeani-Wiley, Staff Attorney at the Sargent Shriver Center on Poverty Law. She asked how any school resource officers were employed by the district. It was responded to on the same day.
Motion by Blue, seconded by Porter to enter executive session at 6:46 P.M. to discuss appointment, employment, compensation, discipline, performance, or dismissal of specific employees of the public body or legal counsel for the public body, including hearing testimony on a complaint lodged against an employee of the public body or against legal counsel for the public body to determine its validity. Motion by Kirby, seconded by Reed to hire Megan Lindsay as an elementary teacher for the 2018-2019 school year per the teachers’ contract and upon successful completion of background check. Blue, aye; Wright, aye; Trogdon, aye; Porter, aye; Kirby, aye; Reed, aye. 6 ayes. No nays. Motion carried.
