Newton Public Library Board met May 21.
Here is the minutes provided by the Board:
Trustees of the Newton Public Library District met May 21, 2018, at 5:00 P.M. Present was Deborah Urfer, Pam Bierman, Ilene Woods, Donna Connor, Mark Dougherty, Peter Pasero, Travis Farley, Director Jacque Holsapple, and Kara Weber from Weber and Company.
President Dougherty called the meeting to order.
The secretary’s report was reviewed and will stand as presented,
The treasurer’s report was reviewed. It will stand approved as presented.
The April and May bills were reviewed. Trustee Woods made a motion to pay the bills, seconded by Trustee Bierman. Motion passed.
Director’s Report:
Connie Davidson sent a thank you for the check she received. She has been acting as a consultant for Director Holsapple.
Flyers for the summer reading program have been placed around town.
Representatives from 1st Financial stopped by. They are available if their services are needed.
Books acquired during April was 329. Books deleted, 187. Money collected from fines, computer cards, copier, printer, fax, and miscellaneous was $478.24.
Old Business:
Kara Weber from Weber & Company was in attendance to answer questions about IMRF. Employees who work more than 1,000 hours yearly are required to pay into IMRF, as is the Library. Two employees have worked more than 1000 hours for the last few years. Mrs. Weber will fill out the IMRF forms.
The original policy for vacation and leave will remain in effect.
Director Holsapple will be attending Director’s University June 4-8 in Springfield.
The second grade visited the library on May 11. They received a tour of the museum and stories were read.
Director Holsapple visited Newton Elementary School on May 18 and talked about the Summer Reading Program.
New Business:
A check for the 2017 Per Capita Grant in the amount of $4014.19 has been received.
The CNA Surety bond bill is $750.00 Director Holsapple will inquire if this is needed. Weber & Company writes the checks and is bonded.
A workshop, Share Reports, will be held on July 12 at the Decatur Public Library. The class focuses on three main ways of retrieving data from Polaris: Searching using the Find Tools: canned Polaris reports and the statistics that are available for each library’ and detailed instructions on the creation and publishing of reports. It was the consensus of the board to allow Director Holsapple to attend.
The Summer Reading Program shows will be at the Sunrise Youth Center starting June 5.
Sarah Weiler, of Integrated Therapy, would like to have a story time during the summer at the library, possibly on Wednesday.
Integrated Therapy have asked that a student worker and job therapist be allowed to work part time at the library. This was approved.
Non resident library card fee is required to be reviewed yearly. Our fee is currently $55.00. It will stay at that amount for the next year.
The next meeting is June 18.
