The regular meeting of the Board of Education of Oblong Community Unit School District #4 was held on March 19, 2018 in the Oblong Room. The meeting was called to order at 7:00 p.m. by President Sparks with the following physically present: Bailey, Higgins, Musgrave, Pinkston, Pusey, Sparks.

Motion by Pusey and seconded by Pinkston to adopt consent agenda items as presented. Roll call vote: Higgins - yea, Musgrave - yea, Pinkston - yea, Pusey - yea, Bailey - yea, Sparks - yea. Motion carried. Consent Agenda items: To approve regular, special and closed session minutes for February 13, and February 22, 2018; financial report of February 2018; payment of March 2018 board bills; approve IHSA membership for 2018-2019; approve IESA membership for 2018-2019; and authorize superintendent to advertise for janitorial bids.
Motion by Pinkston and seconded Musgrave by to approve IHSA Bass Fishing Activity request. Roll call vote: Musgrave - yea, Pinkston - yea, Pusey - yea, Bailey - yea, Higgins - yea, Sparks - yea. Motion carried.
Motion by Pusey and seconded by Higgins to approve Summer School request as presented. Roll call vote: Musgrave - yea, Pinkston - yea, Pusey - yea, Bailey - yea, Higgins - yea, Sparks - yea. Motion carried.
Motion by Bailey and seconded by Pusey to approve Mokim Hardwood Service gym floor refinishing for both gym floors at a cost of $3,081.00. Roll call vote: Pinkston - yea, Pusey - yea, Bailey - yea, Higgins - yea, Musgrave - yea, Sparks - yea. Motion carried.
Motion by Bailey and seconded by Pusey to approve the following field trip requests as presented: 8th Grade Class to Holiday World, May 16; Biology II to St. Louis Zoo, April 20; Science Club to Turkey Run, Marshall, IN, May 11; Beta Club to St. Louis, April 27; and Senior Class Trip to Louisville, KY, May 21. Roll call vote: Pusey - yea, Bailey - yea, Higgins - yea, Musgrave - yea, Pinkston - yea, Sparks - yea. Motion carried.
Motion by Musgrave and seconded by Higgins to approve the following camps/clinics as presented: GS Volleyball Clinic, April 7 & 14 - 3rd - 5th Grades; HS Volleyball Camp & Tournaments, July 10, 12, 19 in Fairfield, IL and July 16-17, Springfield; JH Volleyball Camp & Tournament, July 11 in Casey, and July 20 in Springfield. Roll call vote: Bailey - yea, Higgins - yea, Musgrave - yea, Pinkston - yea, Pusey - yea, Sparks - yea. Motion carried.
Motion by Higgins and seconded by Pinkston to approve Catastrophic Student Insurance. Roll call vote: Higgins - yea, Musgrave - yea, Pinkston - yea, Pusey - yea, Bailey - yea, Sparks - yea.
Motion by Pusey and seconded by Higgins to go into closed session at 7:28 pm to discuss appointment, employment, compensation, discipline, performance, or dismissal of specific employees, student discipline and collective bargaining. Roll call vote: Musgrave - yea, Pinkston - yea, Pusey - yea, Bailey - yea, Higgins - yea, Sparks - yea. Motion carried.

Motion by Pinkston and seconded by Musgrave to renew the employment of probationary certified employees: Mary K Blankenbaker, Sarah Bleyer, Whitley Straka, Tanya Pfeifer, Sheryl Brummer, Rex Ian Laughlin, Kelly Lohman, Brittney Murray, Barbara Potts, Julie Redman, Alicia Haberlin, Katherine Fehrenbacher, Heather Martin, Nicole Sholders, Tiffany Grove, Sadie Gassmann, and Stephanie McGuire. Motion by Pusey and seconded by Higgins to approve the letter of resignation for the intent of retiring from Galen Slover effective at the conclusion of the 2021-2022 school year. Roll call vote: Bailey - yea, Higgins - yea, Musgrave - yea, Pinkston - yea, Pusey - yea, Sparks - yea. Motion carried.
Motion by Higgins and seconded by Bailey to approve the letter of resignation for the intent of retiring from Jane Attaway effective in August 2019. Roll call vote: Higgins - yea, Musgrave - yea, Pinkston - yea, Pusey - nay, Bailey - yea, Sparks - yea. Motion carried.
Motion by Higgins and seconded by Bailey to approve Todd Garrison as Assistant High School Volunteer Baseball Coach. Roll call vote: Musgrave - yea, Pinkston - yea, Pusey - yea, Bailey - yea, Higgins - yea, Sparks - yea. Motion carried.
