Windsor Community Unit School District 1 Board met Jan. 17.

Here is the agenda provided by the Board:

1.Call to Order/Roll callVice President Nick Hendrickson called the meeting to order at 6:30pm.

The following were present: Nick Hendrickson, Karen Pfeiffer, Albert Shafer, Michelle Schultz, Stacy Cole, and Matt Greuel. Administrators Erik Van Hoveln and Brian Lee were also present. Matthew Bennett was absent.

a.Superintendents Report

Mr. Van Hoveln reported:

1.Curriculum Meetings are set between the JH staff and the 5th and 6th grade teachers later this month. The focus will be on aligning the curriculum top down to ensure students are college and career ready when they leave the Windsor District.

2.Transition: A team was formed to look at improving the transition from the GS to the JH. After some discussion the team has decided to implement a few changes for next year. The 6th grade class will walk to special classes without a teacher, a set of lockers will be installed near the classroom with a combination lock, grades 3-6 will get a planner to use and grades 5-8 will use color coded folders to assist with organization.

News

On 1/15 - Stipend Day - Team bonding at Mattoon Lanes, lunch at Stadium Grill and scavenger hunt in the afternoon

We received our first check of the year from collecting Box tops for $252.50

On Friday, December 29th, Pam Storm, Denise Sentel, Hannah Imig and myself went to Evansville and dropped off 1,300 lbs of plastic lids and brought home 3 gray plastic benches. Benches have been placed in the Pre-school playground area, outside the gym door and inside the playground area by the south wing.

On 1/10 Mrs. Babbs presented to the faculty on guided reading. She did an excellent job of talking about how it looks and works in her room.

Greuel made a motion to accept, seconded by Pfeiffer. Member’s votes were: Hendrickson – yes, Shafer – yes, Pfeiffer – yes, Greuel – yes, Schultz – yes, and Cole – yes. MOTION CARRIED 6 – yes, 0 – no.

7.Executive Session

Schultz made a motion to go into executive session at 7:46pm, seconded by Greuel. Member’s votes were: Shafer – yes, Pfeiffer – yes, Greuel – yes, Schultz – yes, Cole – yes, and Hendrickson – yes. MOTION CARRIED 6 – yes, 0 – no.

8.Return to Open Session-Possible Action from Executive Session

Hendrickson made a motion to return to open session at 8:49pm, seconded by Schultz. Member’s votes were: Pfeiffer – yes, Greuel – yes, Schultz – yes, Cole – yes, Hendrickson – yes, and Shafer – yes. MOTION CARRIED 6 – yes, 0 – no.

a.Hire Courtney West as FCS Teacher

Greuel made a motion to accept, seconded by Schultz. Member’s votes were: Greuel – yes, Schultz – yes, Cole – yes, Hendrickson – yes, Shafer – yes, and Pfeiffer – yes. MOTION CARRIED 6 – yes, 0 – no.

b.Hire Lindsay Floyd as High School Math Teacher

Hendrickson made a motion to accept, seconded by Shafer. Member’s votes were: Schultz – yes, Cole – yes, Hendrickson – yes, Shafer – yes, Pfeiffer – yes, and Greuel – yes. MOTION CARRIED 6 – yes, 0 – no.

c.Hire Scott Dow as High School Golf Coach, Rhonda Schlecte as High School Volleyball Coach, and Marsha Friedrich and Assistant High School Volleyball Coach

Cole made a motion to accept, seconded by Schultz. Member’s votes were: Cole – yes, Hendrickson – yes, Shafer – yes, Pfeiffer – yes, Greuel – yes, and Schultz – yes. MOTION CARRIED 6 – yes, 0 – no.

10.Adjournment A motion to adjourn was made by Cole, seconded by Hendrickson at 8:51pm. MOTION CARRIED by voice vote – all yes.
