Rankings: 10 worst funded pensions in East Central Illinois

Money836

Olney, Mattoon and Charleston have government pension funds with the lowest funding levels in East Central Illinois, according to the Illinois Department of Insurance.

If the amount a pension fund is obligated to pay pensioners outpaces the funds it has on hand, the fund is in the precarious position of carrying unfunded liabilities.

The healthiest funds have a funding position at or above 100 percent. Any fund whose position is below 100 percent is unable to meet its pension obligations.
