An U.S. district court has rejected Edgar County Deputy Dee Burgin's request for an automatic stay of his case, according to the Edgar County Watchdogs (ECW).
The court determined that Burgin's filing of a suggestion did not warrant a stay in the civil rights case involving him and plaintiff Charles Barrett.
According to court documents, the case against Burgin will proceed under the discovery schedule that was set in May. A status conference will take place on Friday.

Barnett filed a complaint against Burgin in December, alleging various civil rights violations and illegal actions. The allegations stem from an incident in which Burgin claimed was not read his Miranda rights and the deputy allegedly entered Barrett’s home without a search warrant.
Other defendants in the case are Edgar County Sheriff Jeff Wood and the county itself.
