Flora Community Unit School District 35 Board of Education met Aug. 14.

Call to Order: 5:31 p.m.
1. Motion Leib, seconded by Cook, to approve the Consent Agenda: Minutes of the previous meeting, July 17, 2017, Bills, Treasurer’s Report, Volleyball trip to Vincennes on 8/26, Girls’ tennis trip to Edwardsville on 9/1. Roll call: Brooks, yes; Cook, yes; Souder, yes; Wiley, yes; McCoy, yes; Leib, yes.
2. Motion Souder, seconded by Brooks, to approve the tentative budget and to set September 18, 2017 during the regular Board meeting as the date for the public hearing on the budget. Roll Call: Cook, yes; Souder, yes; Wiley, yes; McCoy, yes; Leib, yes; Brooks, yes.
3. Motion Wiley, seconded by Leib, to approve the memorandum between SESE governing board and member districts. All ayes. Motion carried.
4. Committee Reports: Superintendent Hackney highlighted committee dates for the 2017- 2018 school year.
5. Administrator Reports: Elementary Principal Carder reported on Open House on Tuesday and preparing for school to start. FHJHS Principal Leonard reported baseball and softball had started, threat assessment on Friday and she thanked the maintenance staff for all their work. Athletic Director McNeely reported golf had started and the remaining sports will start next week. FHS Principal Pearce reported on the parking lot, new entrance sign and he also thanked the maintenance staff for all their work. Superintendent Hackney expressed his thanks to the custodial and maintenance staff for all of their hard work in the summer cleaning, Registration and teacher induction was highlighted.
6. Motion Leib, seconded by Brooks, to enter into executive session. (5:58 p.m.) All ayes. Motion carried.
7. Motion Cook, seconded by Souder, to return to regular session. (6:06 p.m.) All ayes. Motion carried.
8. Motion Souder, seconded by Leib, to employ Karla Keck as part-time teacher at Flora High School for the 2017-2018 school year. Roll Call: Wiley, yes; McCoy, yes; Leib, yes; Brooks, yes; Cook, yes; Souder, yes.
9. Motion Cook, seconded by McCoy, to employ Lori Shehorn as part-time teacher at Floyd Henson Junior High School for the 2017-2018 school year. Roll Call: Leib, yes; Brooks, yes; Cook, yes; Souder, yes; Wiley, yes; McCoy, yes.
10. Motion Brooks, seconded by Wiley, to accept the resignation of Patti Patterson as custodian effective July 21, 2017. All ayes. Motion carried.
11. Motion Cook, seconded by Souder, to employ Wanda Schewe as paraprofessional for the 2017-2018 school year. Roll Call: Brooks, yes; Cook, yes; Souder, yes; Wiley, yes; McCoy, yes; Leib, yes.
12. Motion McCoy, seconded by Leib, to employ Rodney Greenwood as custodian effective August 14, 2017. Roll Call: Cook, yes; Souder, yes; Wiley, yes; McCoy, yes; Leib, yes; Brooks, yes.
13. Motion Wiley, seconded by Brooks, to employ Lucas Goodman as custodian effective August 14, 2017. Roll Call: Souder, yes; Wiley, yes; McCoy, yes; Leib, yes; Brooks, yes; Cook, yes.
14. The Board acknowledge receipt of maternity leave for Emily Glassford.
