Shelbyville FPD responds to 27 fires in 2016

Shelbyville Fire Protection District responded to 41 calls in 2016, according to data from the National Fire Incident Reporting System obtained by the East Central Reporter.

The calls in Shelbyville included 27 fires - 11 structure fires, six vehicle fires and 10 other fires.

In all, the department saw $159,550 in fire loss - or about $5,909 per fire.

The department also received 14 false calls, including one malicious call and 13 other false calls.

The calls resulted in one civilian fire-related injury.

The Shelbyville FPD Firefighters' Pension Fund, which has four active employees and five retired or inactive employees, was $76,452 in debt as of June 2016, according to the fund's mandated filings with the Illinois Department of Insurance. That amounts to $2,832 for every fire in 2016.
