A team from Kansas soaked up the top prize in the annual Water Ball Tournament hosted by the Ashmore Fire Department recently, according to the Edgar County Watchdogs (ECW).
The tournament, a tradition at the Ashmore Days Festival, brought five fire departments together for a fun training opportunity. Ashmore was joined by the Brocton and Seven Hickory fire departments, as well as the Kansas and Lincoln fire protection districts.
Two departments battle in a sort of reverse tug-o-war, with each using water hoses to push a ball suspended on a line above them toward the opposing team. The challenge is a fun way for the departments to get hands-on experience with pump and hose line operations, and is also a great way to pique spectator interest in volunteering with their local departments, the ECW said.
The Ashmore team took second and Lincoln came in third. The winners received trophies in an awards presentation.
