Bismarck-Henning CUSD #1 Board of Education met June 12.

Here is the minutes provided by the Board:

The regular meeting of the Board of Education of Community Unit School District No. 1 was called to order by President, Dave Clapp at 7:00 p.m. in the Ellen R. Morris Board Room. The following members were in attendance:

Audience members present were: Brent Rademacher, Laura Girton, Rusty Campbell, Sheryl Ribbe, Jim Ribbe, Phil Benjamin, Corey Potter, Carla, Allison and Mark Overlander.

Motion by Ron Winkler, Steve Lane to approve the agenda of the June 12 regular board meeting. Motion carried by unanimous voice vote.

Motion by Cheryl Brumett, second by Tricia Hagley to approve the minutes of the May 8 board meeting. Motion carried by unanimous voice vote.

Motion by Steve Lane, second by Justin Watt to approve the bills of the month. Motion carried by unanimous roll call vote.

Activity fund balances were approved.

Motion by Cheryl Brumett, second by Steve Lane to amend the 2016-2017 District Budget. The state has changed the way it calculates administrative costs and therefore the budget needs to be amended. Motion carried by unanimous roll call vote.

Motion by Steve Lane, second by Justin Watt to approve the Prevailing Wage Resolution for 2017-2018 school year. Motion carried by unanimous roll call vote.

Motion by Tricia Hagley, second by Cheryl Brumett to approve the board meeting dates for the 2017-2018 school year. The meetings will usually be the second Thursday of the month. Motion carried by unanimous voice vote.

Motion by Ron Winkler, second by Steve Lane to approve the Health/Dental/Vision rates with IERMP for the 2017-2018 school year. Motion carried by unanimous roll call vote.

Corey Potter from Old National Insurance was here to go over the new property/casualty insurance rates beginning July 1, 2017. Overall premiums will go up 3.51%. Motion to approve WRM Companies as insurance renewal for 2017-2018 year by Tricia Hagley, second by Cheryl Brumett. Motion carried by unanimous roll call vote.

Motion by Justin Watt, second by Tricia Hagley to go into closed session at 7:20 p.m. to discuss student discipline. Motion carried by unanimous voice vote.

Motion by Tricia Hagley, second by Ron Winkler to go into open session at 7:45 p.m. and approve closed session minutes. Motion carried by unanimous voice vote.

Motion by Tricia Hagley, second by Cheryl Brumett to recommend Student A be expelled for the 2017-2018 school year. If Student A completes a successful treatment program and attends Middlefork Safe School, student will be reviewed by principals and will be allowed to return to Bismarck-Henning/Rossville-Alvin Cooperative High School for the 2nd semester of the 2017-2018 school year. Motion carried by unanimous roll call vote.

A discussion was presented on District Fees for the 2017-2018 school year. Board members would like additional information. The discussion was tabled until the July 13 board meeting.

Laura Girton presented the Title I Plan for the 2017-2018 school year. Motion by Cheryl Brumett, second by Steve Lane to approve the Title I Plan as presented. Motion carried by unanimous voice vote.

Motion by Ron Winkler, second by Steve Lane to approve the 1st reading of the changes for the junior high handbook. Motion carried by unanimous voice vote.

Cooperative High School update—the budget has been reviewed. We are waiting for the agreement to come back from the Rossville-Alvin attorney. A tuition rate is being calculated.

Motion by Tricia Hagley, second by Ron Winkler to approve the 2017-2018 Elementary and JH Budgets as presented. Motion carried by unanimous roll call vote.

VASE/VVEDS – end of year meeting

End of Season reports for HS athletics was reviewed. All sports had a very successful year.

Did you know....

The Cunningham Garden at the Elementary school was on the Vermilion County Master Gardener Walk. Approximately 175 people toured the garden. Sue Colby, former P.E. teacher, was the tour guide.

August 19, 2017 is the date scheduled for BHRA – 5 K.

Fire and Ice will be June 17 at the Bismarck Fire Station with Fireworks to follow at the Bismarck-Henning High School.

Motion by Tricia Hagley, second by Steve Lane to accept the resignation of Nicole Barnes, Elementary cook, effective May 10, 2017. Motion carried by unanimous voice vote.

Motion by Steve Lane, second by Cheryl Brumett to accept the resignation of Lacey Krabel as junior high cheerleading sponsor at the end of the 2016-2017 school year. Motion carried by unanimous voice vote.

Motion by Cheryl Brumett, second by Tricia Hagley to approve the employment of Dale McCoy as Director of Technology starting June 13, 2017. Motion carried by unanimous roll call vote.

Motion by Tricia Hagley, second by Justin Watt to employ Sheryl Ribble to perform the roles of District Accounts Payable/Receivable Bookkeeper for the 2017-2018 school year. Motion carried by unanimous roll call vote.

Motion by Ron Winkler, second by Tricia Hagley to employ Sara Andrews as Board Secretary and District Treasurer for the 2017-2018 school year. Motion carried by unanimous roll call vote.

Motion by Steve Lane, second by Cheryl Brumett to employ Kaleb Weaver as junior high history teacher for the 2017-2018 school year. Motion carried by unanimous roll call vote.

Motion by Tricia Hagley, second by Cheryl Brumett to employ Rachel Wells as junior high 5th grade teacher for the 2017-2018 school year. Motion carried by unanimous roll call vote.

Motion by Ron Winkler, second by Tricia Hagley to adjourn meeting at 8:15 p.m. Motion carried by unanimous voice vote.
