Bismarck Henning Community Unit School District 1 Board of Education met March 13.

Here is the minutes provided by the Board:

The regular meeting of the Board of Education of Community Unit School District No. 1 was called to order by President, Dave Clapp at 7:00 p.m. in the Ellen R. Morris Board Room. The following members were in attendance:

Steve Lane Justin Watt Cheryl Brumett

Dave Clapp Tricia Hagley Ron Winkler

Audience members present were: Brent Rademacher, Laura Girton, Rusty Campbell, Sheryl Ribbe, Jim Ribbe, and Tom Johnson.

Motion by Steve Lane, second Cheryl Brumett to approve the agenda of the March 13 regular board meeting. Motion carried by unanimous voice vote.

Motion was made by Ron Winkler, second by Tricia Hagley to approve the minutes of the February 13 board meeting. Motion carried by unanimous voice vote.

Motion by Cheryl Brumett, second by Steve Lane to approve the bills of the month. Motion carried by unanimous roll call vote.

Activity fund balances were approved.

Motion by Ron Winkler, second by Cheryl Brumett to approve IHSA membership for 2017-2018. Motion carried by unanimous voice vote.

Annual Seniority list was presented. Motion by Steve Lane, second by Justin Watt to approve Annual Seniority list for 2016-2017. Motion carried by unanimous voice vote.

High School Winter sports report was given. It was a good season for girls and boys basketball, wrestling and cheerleading also.

Laura Girton, Elementary Principal, presented principal report. Roller skating unit was used in P.E. in January. IPA Student Recognition breakfast students were Ricky Smith and Brooklyn Campbell. PARCC testing will be coming up in April. Mileage club begins; annual 5-K Fun Run and April 13 is Family Game Night.

Motion by Ron Winkler, second by Tricia Hagley to give approval for unit to replace the rooftop heating/air unit for elementary school to be installed by Nate Monjonnier Plumbing, Heating and Cooling. Motion carried by unanimous roll call vote.

Motion by Steve Lane, second by Cheryl Brumett to approve the purchase of a 77 passenger school bus with an annual lease payment of $11,284 for 5 years. Motion carried by unanimous roll call vote.

Men’s Club has requested the use of the school grounds for the annual Easter Egg Hunt on April 15 and the annual Fireworks display on June 17. Motion to approve the use of the grounds for these two dates by Tricia Hagley, second by Justin Watt. Motion carried by unanimous voice vote.

Discussion of Director of Curriculum. Motion by Cheryl Brumett, second by Steve Lane to reinstate the Director of Curriculum position for the 2017-2018 school year. Motion carried by 5-1 vote with Ron Winkler voting no.

Justin Watt presented information about an extra-curricular committee. Discussion about the reasons for this committee. We need to clarify some extra-curricular standards in our policies.

Information presented on official pay and ticket prices for the high school. Changing tickets to $4 for Adults and $3 for students is the recommendation for ticket prices. Official pay will be increased to be in line with area schools. Motion by Tricia Hagley, second by Steve Lane to approve these changes. Motion carried unanimous voice vote.

Information presented about the cooperative high school. Bismarck-Henning and Rossville-Alvin Coop HS is the name that is being used if the cooperative school program is implemented.

VASE/VVEDS/- Dual enrollment classes on DACC campus may be charged a fee and free and reduced students may be charged a smaller fee.

Motion to accept resignation of Matthew Darling as Lunchroom Scanner as of March 1, 2017. Motion by Cheryl Brumett, second by Tricia Hagley. Motion carried by unanimous voice vote.

Motion by Ron Winkler, second by Justin Watt to approve reduction in force for aides and bus drivers as listed. Motion carried by unanimous roll call vote.

Motion by Cheryl Brumett, second by Steve Lane to re-employ support personnel as listed. Motion carried by unanimous voice vote.

Motion by Cheryl Brumett, second by Tricia Hagley to re-employ non-tenured and tenured certified staff as listed. Motion carried by unanimous voice vote.

Motion by Steve Lane, second by Tricia Hagley to extend the Administrative contract of Rusty Campbell beginning on July 1, 2017 thru June 30, 2020. Salary will be determined at a later date. Motion carried by unanimous roll call vote.

Motion by Justin Watt, second by Steve Lane to employ Michael Grant as junior high assistant track coach for the 2017 season. Motion carried by unanimous roll call vote.

Motion by Justin Watt, second by Ron Winkler to adjourn at 9:00 p.m.
