Mattoon ranked 297th in state in lottery ticket sales for April 2016

The City of Mattoon had the 297th highest lottery ticket net sales statewide per capita for the month of April 2016 -- up 82 spots from its March ranking.

The per capita lottery ticket sales in Mattoon was $22.30 per person.

Based on monthly sales records obtained by the East Central Reporter, Mattoon generated $403,890 in net sales from its 17 lottery retailers in April 2016, compared to $370,679 in April 2015.

The City of Mattoon is in Coles County, and has a population of 18,113, according to 2010 census data. Neighboring municipalities are Charleston.

Average sales for municipalities in the region in April 2016 was $21,679.54.

Mattoon's top lottery retailer is Caseys Gen Store #2940 located at 920 Charleston Ave, Mattoon, IL 61938.

Caseys Gen Store #2940 generated 12 percent of Mattoon's April 2016 lottery ticket sales and 8 percent of Coles County's sales that month, which was $672,066.

A close look at sales by city shows that the top four cities with the highest lottery revenue per capita in Coles County in 2015 were Ashmore, Mattoon, Oakland and Charleston.

Statewide, the top five cities with the highest lottery revenue per capita were Forest View, Burnt Prairie, McCook, Mapleton and Merrionette Park.

The top five cities in the state generated $5,496,719 in net sales -- 1 percent of the state's 2015 net sales amounting to $2,793,271,709.50.
