Lawrenceville City Council tables action on variance for Indian Point Apartments

Lawrenceville City Council met Thursday, Dec. 8.

CITY OF LAWRENCEVILLE, ILLINOIS

DECEMBER 8, 2016

MINUTES

The Council of the City of Lawrenceville, Lawrence County, Illinois met in regular session in the City Council Chambers of the City Hall Building on Thursday, December 8, 2016 at the hour of 7:00 p.m. The following Aldermen were present on roll call: Blacketer, Fritch, Holcomb, Stevens, Courtney, Howder, Lynn and Waldrop. Absent: None.

Mayor Wagner called the meeting to order. Waldrop gave the prayer. All present then recited the Pledge of Allegiance while facing the flag.

Mayor Wagner and the Council dedicated the Pledge of Allegiance to an American hero, Mercury 7 Astronaut / Senator John Glenn.

The Council had earlier received copies of the minutes of the regular Council meeting of November 10, 2016. Mayor Wagner asked for questions or comments. Lynn made a motion to approve the minutes of the meeting of November 10, 2016. Holcomb seconded the motion. Motion passed on a voice vote.

The Council had earlier received copies of the bills of the City, Sewer and Water Departments for November. Mayor Wagner asked for questions or comments. Blacketer made a motion to approve paying the bills for November. Stevens seconded the motion. Motion passed on a roll call vote 8-0. Yeas: Blacketer, Holcomb, Fritch, Stevens, Courtney, Howder, Lynn and Waldrop. Nays: None. Absent: None.

Mayor Wagner reported the City’s accounts to the Council. The City working budget is 10.4% under budget into the 16-17 fiscal year. Mayor Wagner praised all City employees for their hard work and dedication to the City.

The variance for Indian Point Apartments in T.I.F. 1 was tabled to next month.

Mayor Wagner noted that the Lawrence/Crawford Association for Exceptional Citizens is requesting a stipend. The Lawrence/Crawford Association for Exceptional Citizens operates a workshop in Lawrenceville to help the community. Mayor Wagner asked for questions or comments.

Waldrop made a motion to approve a $500.00 stipend to L/CAEC. Holcomb seconded the motion. Motion passed on a roll call vote 8-0. Yeas: Blacketer, Courtney, Fritch, Lynn, Holcomb, Howder, Stevens and Waldrop. Nays: None. Absent: None.

Fritch, Utilities committee chairperson, noted that compliments been received around the City about the recent purchases of a new bucket truck and street sweeper.

Fritch, Utilities committee chairperson, reported to the Council the Utilities Department is entering in a four-year generator preventative maintenance agreement with Tracy Electric. Mayor Wagner noted that the agreement would be considerably less expensive than the current contract with an out-of-town business.

Mayor Wagner received a new franchise contract with the power company Ameren Illinois. City Attorney Neal will look at the contract and offer an opinion, report to the Council next month.

Mayor Wagner read two thank you letters to the Council: Each letter from a local family praising Police Officer James Lyle and Police Chief James White for their work. The Council recognize Police Officer Annette Akers , recipient of the “Forward Look” Award from Lawrence County Memorial Hospital for her work as a police officer and for her work in many community-oriented programs.

Area Law Association “Shop with a Cop” will take place Tuesday December 13th.

Courtney made a motion to adjourn. Lynn seconded the motion. The motion was approved by voice vote. Time: 7:26 p.m.
