The Arcola School District #306 Board of Education met Nov. 9 to appoint new board members.

The Arcola School District 306 Board is responsible for overseeing all local school district matters. the board meets on the second Wednesday of each month.

A. Appoint New Board Member to be Seated, Administer the Oath of Office, and Appoint Secretary

Proposed Action: That the Board appoint a new board member to fill vacancy created by the resignation of Traci Watson.

B. Approval of Resolution Approving Participation in the Douglas County Enterprise Zone – Arcola Community School District 306

Proposed Action: That the Board approve the resolution in the proposed Enterprise Zone

C. Approval of First Reading of Board Policies from October, 2016

Proposed Action: That the Board approve as a first reading the policies as recommended by the Policy Committee.

D. Approval of Second Reading of Board Policies from PRESS Packet – July, 2016

Proposed Action: That the Board approve the second reading of the board policies

E. Approval of Tentative Tax Levy, the Tentative Certificate of Abatement and Reduction of Taxes and Set Truth in Taxation Hearing

Proposed Action: That the Board approve the tentative tax levy and the certificate of abatement and set a truth in taxation hearing for December 14, 2016.

F. Approval of 10- Year Health Life Safety Survey for Arcola Elementary School and Arcola High School

Proposed Action: That the Board approve the ten year health life safety surveys required every 10 years.

G. Approval of Second Reading for District Vision Statement

Proposed Action: That the Board approve the new Arcola School District Vision Statement.

H. Approval of Junior High/High School Course Descriptions for 2017-2018 School Year

Proposed Action: That the Board approve the course descriptions included in the packet.

I. Approval of Field Trip either Overnight or Over 100 Miles

Proposed Action: That the Board approve the field trip to the Shedd Aquarium in Chicago.

Proposed Action: That the Board vote to enter into executive session to discuss the appointment, employment, compensation, discipline, performance, or dismissal of specific employees of the public body. Illinois Open Meetings Act, 5 ILCS 120/2(c)(1).

X. Business Following Closed Session (Action Items)

A. Approval of the employment of Staff

Proposed Action: That the board approve Mike Phillips as Volunteer HS Baseball Coach, Bethany Wellbaum as HS Girls Basketball Volunteer, Richard Montague as full-time evening custodian, and Katrina Taylor as paraprofessional (replacing Mr. Chumbley)

B. Approval of the resignation of Staff

Proposed Action: That the board approve any resignations presented.
