Village of Tolono Board of Trustees has announced a new ordinance.

On November 1, 2016, the Village board will consider an immediate ban to leaf burning.

Because of the potential impact of this proposed change, we are sending you this notification.

Ordinance 2014-O-15 (approved 18 November, 2014) allowed limited burning in 2015 and 2016 with a complete ban beginning in 2017. The reason for this delay in implementation was to allow the village time to budget and approve the purchase of a leaf removal vacuum. This vacuum would allow leaves to be picked up from the curb; avoiding the need for residents to burn their leaves. We are considering this immediate ban because the necessary equipment to remove your leaves has been delivered and the associated recycling processes will soon be implemented.

Regardless of the outcome of the vote, you are strongly encouraged to either mulch your own leaves, or to rake them to the street for pickup with the Village leaf vacuum.

Remember that mulching your own leaves has the advantage of providing your yard with needed nutrients. However, the village will remove the leaves from the curb if you prefer. The schedule for pickup will be based on weather and workload, and will be posted on the village website at http://tolonoil.us.
