Highschoolclassroom1401

The Arcola School District #306 Board of Education met Oct. 3 to determine whether or not district facilities should be used as funeral spaces.

Here are the meeting's minutes, as provided by the board:

The Arcola School District 306 Board is responsible for overseeing all local school district matters. the board meets on the second Wednesday of each month.

Policy Committee Minutes – October 3, 2016

Present: Tom Mulligan, Superintendent; Board Members: Dr. Robert Arrol, Randy Rothrock and Sue Stout

The committee meeting was called to order at 3:15 pm.

The committee also reviewed the PRESS packet from July, 2016 and will be recommending policies for first reading at the October board meeting.

The committee also discussed when it is appropriate for the district facility to be used for a funeral. The committee recommends not having a formal policy but does recommend as a general rule it is appropriate to use district facilities for a past or current staff member and students. The committee recommends that as situations arise, the superintendent consults with the board president on the availability of using the facilities.

The committee then discussed whether or not a formal policy needs to be put into place to guide teachers in giving on-line assignments for students that do not have internet access. The committee feels it is better left as an administrative procedure that is communicated through the building principals to the teachers rather than an official board policy. And, principals need to work with teachers in a case by case basis if concerns are raised. But, the committee wants each school leadership team to provide a list of procedures to the policy committee so the committee can review current practices.

The meeting adjourned at 4:30 pm.
