A regular meeting of the Board of Education, Community Unit School District 20, was held Wednesday, June 15, 2016, at Parkside Elementary School community room. President Shane Gray called the meeting to order at 7:00 p.m.

Also present were Superintendent Doug Daugherty, Principals Jeremy Brush, Julie Hayes, and Paul Higginbotham; Parkside Assistant Principal Adam Seaney; Tech Coordinator Brandon Stewart; Rachel Tewell; Amy Theriac; and members of the news media.

A motion by Mike Seitzinger, seconded by Andy Shick, to approve the Agenda. Roll call vote:

Old Business

President Gray called for a Hearing for the 2015-2016 Amended Budget.

Superintendent Daugherty noted the District would have a $61,000 deficit, but had received the insurance check of $178,000 for storm damage, making an ending balance. The Parkside roof will be paid out of next year’s budget, after the bids are let.

No further comments, a motion by Mike Seitzinger, seconded by Ashley Benson, to close the Budget Hearing. All member voted aye, and the regular meeting reconvened.

Appointment of New Board Member

A motion by T J Pargin, seconded by Mike Seitzinger, to appoint Ron Waldrop as a board member in District 5. All members present voted aye, motion carried.

Approve 2015-2016 Amended Budget

A motion by Mike Seitzinger, seconded by Andy Shick, to approve the 2015-2016 Amended Budget. Roll call vote: Gray, aye; Pargin, aye; Seitzinger, aye; Shick, aye; Waldrop, aye; Benson, aye. Motion carried.

Administrative Reports

Parkside Principal Julie Hayes

….custodian cleaning crew working hard, finished stripping floors, cleaned 4th and 5th grade wing, currently working on 3rd grade wing

….June 6 – Public Library held Animal Tales in the cafeteria

….just had Back Pack Program, had 19 bags, 10 more children started.

Parkview Principal Jeremy Brush

….Parkview cafeteria has been stripped and the crew had started on the gym hallway – looks really good

….cleaning crew will be at Parkview in a few weeks

….have not received PARCC tests back, probably won’t receive until fall.

Lawrenceville High School Principal Paul Higginbotham

….May 27 – four LHS freshmen participated in the LIC Leadership Camp. The students participated in team building activities

….Online early registration will be July 18 – July 27.

….summer cleaning crew has cleaned all carpeted rooms except multi-purpose room

….City will hold fireworks at LHS on July 3

….Friday and Saturday LHS will host basketball shoot-out.

A motion by T J Pargin, seconded by Ashley Benson, to advertise for bids for milk and bread. All members present voted aye, motion carried.

A motion by Andy Shick, seconded by Ron Waldrop, to approve Class Schedules and Teacher Assignments for 2016-2017. All members present voted aye, motion carried. (Copy included in official minutes.) Tabled action on 2016-17 Coaching List.

A motion by T J Pargin, seconded by Shane Gray, to approve handbook changes as recommended for Parkside Elementary School, Parkview Jr High School, and LHS. All members present voted aye.

A motion by Mike Seitzinger, seconded by Andy Shick, to approve School-wide and District Title I Plans. All member present voted aye, motion carried.

A motion by Ron Waldrop, seconded by T J Pargin, to approve fee waiver request for Lawrenceville Jr Pro Football League and Lawrence County Health Department. All member present voted aye, motion carried.

A motion by Mike Seitzinger, seconded by Ashley Benson, to approve fee waiver request from The Guardian Center for a softball tournament. All members present voted aye, motion carried.

A motion by Ashley Benson, seconded by Andy Shick, to approve City of Lawrenceville to use school grounds for their fireworks display. All members present voted aye, motion carried.

A motion by Ashley Benson, seconded by Mike Seitzinger, to approve changing date for July 20 regular school board meeting to July 14. All members present voted aye, motion carried.

A motion by Andy Shick, seconded by Ashley Benson, to approve the purchase of Chromebooks for LHS freshmen class at cost of $15,000. Roll call vote: Seitzinger, aye; Shick, aye; Waldrop, aye; Benson, aye; Gray, aye; Pargin, aye. Motion carried

A motion by Andy Shick, seconded by Ashley Benson, to go into Executive Session to discuss personnel matters such as: resignations, retirements, employment of personnel, and posting of positions, as per 5ILCS of the Illinois School Code. Roll call vote: Shick, aye; Waldrop, aye; Benson, aye; Gray, aye; Pargin, aye; Seitzinger, aye. Motion carried, and the board went into Executive Session at

7:35 p.m.

A motion by Mike Seitzinger, seconded by Ron Waldrop, to reconvened into open session. All members present voted aye, motion carried, and the meeting reconvened at 9:00 p.m.

A motion by Ashley Benson, seconded by Ron Waldrop, to accept resignation of LHS teacher, Tabitha Ludington. All members present vote aye, motion carried.

A motion by Ashley Benson, seconded by Ron Waldrop, to accept TAG Sponsor Cindy Seed’s resignation. All members present voted aye, motion carried.

A motion by Ashley Benson, seconded by Ron Waldrop, to accept Parkview Cheer Co-sponsor Megan Joergen’s resignation. All members present voted aye, motion carried.

A motion by Mike Seitzinger, seconded by T J Pargin, to accept retirement of Barbara Faith at end of 2015-2016 school year. All members present voted aye, motion carried.

A motion by T J Pargin, seconded by Ashley Benson, to accept retirement of Jeannette Kelly (bus driver). All members present voted aye, motion carried.
