Roofing project is back on track after dealing with rainy weather and a couple of issues with interior ceiling tiles and drywall. All is in place to get things finished.
Parking lot: The project is going well. We will see NeCo Asphalt here in the next week or so to finish the project. “NeCo and Mt. Carmel Corporation are true professionals who will get us a great product”.
Board report:
President Ingram mentioned that there will be a new committee formed called “The Continuous Improvement” Committee. This committee will be comprised of board members, administration, staff, member(s) of the student body, and community members. The committee’s focus will be to “take the pulse” of the district and discuss ways we can continue to make our schools better. There will be more discussion about this new committee soon. The committee will be appointed by its definition tonight and appointments will be made at next month’s meeting.
The following information is provided by chairs of the various board committees as a result of the curriculum, finance, transportation, and policy committee meetings.
Curriculum Committee Notes:
Eureka Math will be adopted as the math curriculum for grades K-5 this year and grades 6-8 next year. Mrs. Keyser and Mr. Huffman provided a lot of research and discussion on this particular curriculum.
Reading Street will be the Reading curriculum choice for grades 1st-5th. First, Fourth, and Fifth grades are already using this curriculum. This completes the reading curriculum in grades 2 and 3 after one classroom in each grade provided a pilot for the last several years.
Both of these curriculum adoptions will allow Cumberland students and teachers to more closely align with Common Core Standards and district curricular alignment.
Finance Committee Notes:
Discussion was held about the upcoming fiscal year budget. More information will be presented at future meetings.
Transportation Committee Notes:
Discussion was held about the alignment of our routes from 13 routes to 12 routes for the 2015-16 school year. Bus #28 has had some issues. There is discussion about taking that bus out of the fleet so we will not have to worry about big expenses with repairs on that bus.
Policy Committee Notes:
Policies will be brought to the next meeting for the first reading of some policy changes.
