Members of the Tuscola City Council met Monday, May 23.
The Tuscola City Council meets at 7:30 p.m. on the second and fourth Monday of every month. If a city-recognized holiday falls on those days, the meeting is rescheduled for the following Tuesday. The meetings are held at the Tuscola City Hall, 214 N. Main St.

The regular meeting of the Tuscola City Council was called to order with Cleland, Day, Henderson, Hoey, Maxey, Shoemaker, Slaughter, Truitt, and Mayor Kleiss in attendance. Mayor Kleiss led the Pledge of Allegiance.

Consent Agenda
Mayor Kleiss went over the items on the consent agenda:

Resolutions
Stephanie Brown, Urban Planner with MSA, called council's attention to the Comprehensive Plan for the City of Tuscola. Brown thanked council for the opportunity to work with the committee and city officials on this plan. The year-long process has been a pleasure and a joy. Brown briefly touched on chapters in the plan and offered to answer questions from council. Brown added on the whole, people are very happy with our town. They would like to see more local retail and the number one request was a nice sit down restaurant. Administrator Hoel pointed out residents seem to be happy with the direction of residential growth and industrial growth. Mayor Kleiss stated a comment received from the public comment period was an east/west main road on the north side of town. Since North line is not an option, perhaps Barker Street could serve as the main east/west road, if it were done like Ficklin Street. Brown added another

comment from the public was to look at ways to get people visiting the mall to also visit downtown. Signage and streetscape enhancements were suggested as ways this could be accomplished. Truitt moved to approve resolution 2016-R-2, a resolution adopting a comprehensive land use plan for the City of Tuscola. Cleland seconded. Contracts and Agreements
Mayor Kleiss reported Earl Walker Company was the only bid received for the City's annual oil and chip. Administrator Hoel added Walker's bid was below other town's prices. Cleland moved to approve the bid award of $68,214.00, for the annual oil and chip to Earl Walker Company. Hoey seconded. VOTE YEA* Cleland, Day, Henderson, Hoey, Maxey, Shoemaker, Slaughter, Truitt.
Other
Alderman Henderson thanked council, Mayor, and city staff for the appreciation award he received two weeks ago. Henderson added this is a good group and he still enjoys serving on the council.
Henderson reported he had a resident tell him she overheard a visitor saying we have a nice downtown and a beautiful Festival Corner. The resident commented we don't realize what we have here because we see it every day.
Slaughter asked if sidewalks would be an upcoming project. Administrator Hoel answered we try to do some sidewalks every year. He and Forman Cruzan have been discussing this and plan to devote substantial time to the project.
