Dr. Thomas Cahill recently passed a recertification exam to retain his status as diplomate of the Certification Board of Nuclear Cardiology as he continues his duties as cardiologist for the Sarah Bush Lincoln Center in Mattoon.

“Cardiology is an amazing field that is constantly advancing -- and new solutions are being found everyday to fight heart disease,” Cahill said. “Problems that once couldn’t be treated are now treatable and often curable.”

With over 33 years experience in acute and chronic cardiac conditions, Cahill provides medical care for patients at Sarah Bush Lincoln through a Prairie Heart Institute partnership.

“Dr. Cahill is an exceptionally talented cardiologist who is dedicated to providing the best possible cardiac care to our community members,” Tim Ols, president and CEO of Sarah Bush Lincoln, said. “We offer him our sincerest congratulations on his recent accomplishment.”

Cahill received his M.D. from Saint Louis University School of Medicine, where he went on to complete his internship, residency and fellowship in cardiology.

The Certification Board of Nuclear Cardiology (CBNC) assesses nuclear cardiologists’ knowledge levels, encourages professional development and upholds quality patient care.

Cahill participated in the CBNC exam in December 2015 and was notified in late February of his successful recertification.

Nuclear cardiology utilizes nuclear imaging techniques for the non-invasive study of cardiovascular disease.
