The Marshall Public Library raised donations at its Jan. 13 board meeting.
The Marshall Public Library became a grateful beneficiary of several generous donations as it reviewed upcoming programs and events at its Jan. 13 regular board of trustees meeting at 612 Archer Ave.
Director Alyson Thompson and Head Librarian Jamie Poorman were present along with trustees. With routine bills and reports approved, the correspondence liaison reported an active month, with many thank-you notes and holiday cards received as well as invitations to a Chamber of Commerce event and a library legislative meeting.
Thompson announced that volunteer Christina Walden started as a worker on loan. The library received an endowment from Edna Schwartz’s estate in the amount of $17,650. Additionally, Kohl’s made a $500 grant to Friends of the Library, and Jerry Forsythe donated $1,000.
The board discussed establishing a special reserve fund, and Thompson presented bids on a window replacement project.
Upcoming events included a LEGO Adventure and Cabin Fever programs; and the AARP Free Tax Assistance program will be available to all residents Feb. 2 through April 15.
Poorman presented her report for December, showing data for borrowers and checkout activity. City of Marshall residents account for 2,154 library cards, while area residents’ cards total 1,677. Including print and multimedia, the library houses a total of over 35,000 items.
The board of trustees of Marshall Public Library meets on the second Wednesday of each month at 6 p.m. in the library. The meetings are open to the public, with time allotted for public comment.
