Arcola City Council handles requests, reports at Feb. 1 meeting

Convening on Feb. 1 at 114 Locust St., Arcola City Council members approved several batches of meeting minutes and reports before proceeding to accept requests and recommendations for zoning changes and permits.

Members present included alderpersons Terry Foran, William Reece, Mark Smith, Kendall Moore and John Guyot; City Administrator Bill Wagoner, Treasurer Fred Harvey and attorney Andrew Bequette.

The council members approved meeting minutes from Jan. 18, bills from the last two weeks in January, the January treasurer’s and zoning officer’s reports.

A Plan Commission report stemming from its previous Jan. 21 meeting highlighted two separate requests.

First, Reynaldo Gonzales requested a zoning change for property located at 402 East St., Route 133, in order to change the designation from R-4 residential to B-1 commercial. Second, Jim Webster desired to build two additional buildings at property located at 100 – 123 Front St.

Both requests were granted unanimously. An additional item pertained to an ordinance, No. 16-Z-1, a special use permit for Laura Williamsof 225 Washington Court; that, too, was approved, and the council moved on to committee reports.

In addition, Guyot reported that the Water and Sewer Committee met prior to this meeting and discussed raising water rates, due to American Water raising rates.

The meeting adjourned at 7:12 p.m.
