The Lawrence Public Library looks forward to renovations and various media updates.

Lawrence Public Library’s board of trustees heard updates on scheduled building renovations and verified the ongoing conversion to electronic media when it met on Jan. 19 in Lawrenceville.

Because the library will be closed to the public for over a week during remodeling, its staff will publicize the closing via newspaper, website and Facebook. Staffers will still be available for phone calls, questions and deliveries.

Taxation, new computers and eBooks service headlined the agenda, along with reports and invoices.

The board welcomed two visitors: library assistant Carol Hutchinson and library director Terrie Tucker.

As no conflict of interest was noted, the board granted permission for political candidate Kyle McCarter, who is running for U.S. senator, to hold meetings in the building’s basement. The consensus was that “we do not discriminate and allow anyone to hold meetings.”

The board voted to close its Illinois Funds e-pay account; snow removal will be handled by Growing Green, with backup provided by the library’s custodian.

Electronic resources were reviewed, with approval for the Lawrence Public Library to transfer from SILGO to 3M Consortium, which is run by the state of Illinois, for its eBooks service. Tucker reviewed magazine subscriptions with an eye toward trimming the hard copy collection.

Financial updates featured no major changes. The library did receive $1539.42, however, as reimbursement for Internet equipment from one source. Tucker anticipates a possible wait for another repayment in the approximate amount of $4,000.

The Youth/Programs Director’s Report indicated that the library’s website has been updated; both the book club reading list and summer reading program have been finalized, as well. The meeting adjourned without needing to retire to an executive session.
