Boy Scouts, bills, and new business led the Village of Oblong, Illinois Board of Trustees’ agenda at its recent meeting.
Roll call revealed members present as Mayor Randy Rich; Clerk Ladora Boyd; Treasurer/Deputy Clerk Jan Miller; and Trustees Rick Catt, Dave Hasty, Ken Russell, Teresa Fielder, and Debi Wilson. Trustee Jay Haines was absent.
Also present were Public Works Superintendent Gary Lanter, Chief Chad Pusey, Tom Compton (Daily News), Mike McReynolds, Nick Hinterscher; Bill Cox and Robert Miller (Boy Scout of America Leaders), and Tristan Sablone, Curtis Richey, Christian Miller, and Nick Brown (all of Boy Scouts of America).
Call to order was followed by the Pledge and a warm welcome to the Boy Scouts. The board approved minutes from its Dec. 2 meeting. Hinterscher brought up one addition to the agenda — in the form of a new family dining business opening on South Range — and clarified that it had previously been determined there was no need for a separate liquor license.
One constituent was permitted to pay his water bill late (Jan. 8); the board unanimously adopted the Village’s Investment Policy.
In the Mayor’s comments, it was announced that State Representative Reggie Phillips would be available for citizens’ questions on Feb. 2. After reviewing property tax and legal matters regarding Roger Colmark, the board opted to have the Village attorney contact Colmark to reiterate his obligations to mow empty lots in the TIF 1 area.
Committee Reports revealed that the Police Department may require a higher amount for attorney fee reimbursement. Water and Sewer will not yet be hiring a replacement for Rick White, who resigned Dec. 18. The board recommended that Lanter attend an Illinois Rural Water Association Conference scheduled for Feb. 16-18 in Effingham.
Final order of business was approval to pay bills on the warranty list, along with utility bills and any bills potentially generating a late charge or reimbursement need.
The meeting was then adjourned.
