A recent incident in Coles County has raised concerns about state policies regarding undocumented immigrants. The driver involved in the collision that resulted in the deaths of Coles County Board member Mike Clayton and his wife Gail was reportedly in the United States without legal status.
Illinois State Representative Adam Niemerg (R-Teutopolis) criticized current state leadership, stating, "The driver who hit Coles County Board member Mike Clayton and his wife Gail was in the U.S. ILLEGALLY. More lives lost because of failed leadership. Governor JB Pritzker’s reckless policies keep putting Illinois families at risk. Instead of protecting citizens, Democrats continue to protect those here illegally — and our communities are paying the price."
Niemerg, a Republican, began serving as representative for Illinois' 102nd House District in 2023 after succeeding Darren Bailey.
