The US Border Patrol’s El Centro Sector has stated that its presence in the greater Chicago area is aimed at arresting individuals involved in criminal activities. The agency highlighted a recent case involving an undocumented immigrant from Mexico who was arrested as part of Operation Midway Blitz. This individual, according to the Border Patrol, had nine prior arrests, including felony and misdemeanor convictions.
The most recent arrest of this individual gained national attention after he allegedly posed as a rideshare driver in Chicago on March 30, 2025, and sexually assaulted a woman in his vehicle. He was charged with aggravated criminal sexual assault, aggravated kidnapping with bodily harm, and unlawful restraint. Despite these charges, he was released from detention two days later.
The Border Patrol attributed his continued presence in Chicago to the city’s sanctuary policies. The agency stated, “With a lengthy and violent criminal record dating back to 2002, why has he been living free as a bird in the Windy City? The statement continued, “Illinois’ sanctuary state policies have created an environment where law-abiding families are left vulnerable, and violent offenders slip through the cracks. Time and again, dangerous individuals who should never have been on our streets have been allowed to remain free, with devastating consequences. These tragedies are not isolated incidents, they are the direct result of failed leadership and reckless policies that put politics ahead of public safety…read more.”
