Clay County taxpayers ranked 79th in total sales taxes paid per county in June, according to Illinois tax records.

In total, residents paid $155,004 in sales taxes during June.

The county ranked 81st in the Prairie State the month before, with $128,736 spent in sales taxes.

The largest share of sales taxes paid by Clay County residents in June came from the Special County Retailers Occupation Tax.

The Special County Retailers Occupation Tax, a crucial revenue stream, is primarily allocated for county governments' use.
