Clay County taxpayers ranked 80th in total sales taxes paid per county in April, according to Illinois tax records.

In total, residents paid $127,958 in sales taxes during April.

The county ranked 81st in the Prairie State the month before, with $110,943 spent in sales taxes.

The largest share of sales taxes paid by Clay County residents in April came from the Special County Retailers Occupation Tax.

The Special County Retailers Occupation Tax, a crucial revenue stream, is primarily allocated for county governments' use.
