HSHS St. Anthony’s Physical Rehabilitation and Wellness is organizing the fourth annual “Meet Me at the Finish Line” Youth Adaptive Try-Athlon to encourage fitness and self-confidence among young athletes with mobility and physical challenges. The event will take place on Saturday, Sept. 13 at the Richard E. Workman Sports Complex in Effingham from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m.
The try-athlon is open to athletes aged 18 and under who have mobility deficits or face barriers that prevent them from joining community events. Participants will compete in swimming, biking, and running events, each accompanied by a buddy throughout the activities. The schedule includes six heats, with a new group of six athletes starting every half hour.
Pregame activities, prizes, light refreshments, and snacks will be provided by HSHS St. Anthony’s Memorial Hospital. The public is invited to attend and support the participants.
Organizers expressed their appreciation for local partners supporting the event, including the Richard E. Workman Sports Complex for providing space and the AMBUCS chapter in Sullivan for supplying adaptive bikes.
“Join us in cheering on our athletes as they overcome their everyday challenges in this fun and adaptive event,” shared Tammy Probst, Director of Rehab Services at HSHS St. Anthony’s Memorial Hospital. “We will have noisemakers available, or bring your own, to cheer on our athletes as they participate in the three-event race and cross the finish line on their own. It is truly an inspirational time.”
