Illinois police officers who died in service over the past year were honored at the Fallen Peace Officers Memorial Ceremony held on Thursday. The event is a solemn reminder of the bravery and dedication of the state's law enforcement personnel. Individuals came together in Springfield to pay their respects to the fallen officers and their families. The ceremony aimed to ensure that their sacrifices are never forgotten.

The agenda for the day began with a squad car procession lined up at the Fairgrounds starting early at 6:30 am. An interfaith church service was conducted at the Cathedral of the Immaculate Conception at 9:30 am. The memorial ceremony took place at the State Capitol at 11:00 am. This event marks a continuation of the tradition of honoring those who have lost their lives in the line of duty.

Honorees for the ceremony included Deputy Christina Musil of Dekalb County Sheriff's Office, Sergeant Andrew J. Faught from the Illinois Department of Corrections, Officer Luis Miguel Huesca from the Chicago Police Department, and several other officers who served in various departments across the state. Each officer's End of Watch (E.O.W.) date was listed to commemorate their service and sacrifice.

“May their sacrifice never be forgotten,” stated those in attendance, reaffirming the commitment to remember these brave individuals.
